Is Your Dog Who You Expected Them To Be?

If you are anything like me, you likely consider your dogs as members of your family..

Although we get to choose our dogs, we don’t always know the exact personality of our dogs when we bring them home. As a puppy they take time ‘growing into’ their personality, and in the case of a rescued or rehomed dog we often only see their true personalities start to emerge after several weeks of settling into their new homes.

When their personalities do fully emerge, they aren’t always what we expected or wished for, nor are they necessarily a good match for our own personality.

There could also be personality clashes between your dog and other people or animals in the family group. For instance, it could be that two dogs don't get along, or a challenging relationship between your partner and the dog emerges. These circumstances are certainly not planned, and can be uncomfortable and difficult for anyone involved.

In some cases the choice to rehome the dog and find them a more suitable, well-matched family, could be the safer, more humane option

However, there is always the option to figure it out, and make it possible for everyone to live in harmony together. Yes, it takes effort, adjustments, understanding, patience, tolerance and above all unconditional love and acceptance. But, I believe our dogs deserve that, and I also know that it's one of the most rewarding experiences we can have in this life.

'You get the dog you need, not necessarily the dog you wanted.'

I choose to believe that our dogs come into our lives for a reason. I believe that they bring us opportunities for self growth and transformation, along with all the love, joy and companionship they offer.

So, I invite you to get CURIOS about your dog. Learn everything you can about who they are as an individual, and find out what makes them tick.

CURIOSITY leads to DISCOVERY. DISCOVERY leads to AWARENESS. AWARENESS allows us to make CHOICES. CHOICES lead to CHANGE. CHANGE leads to GROWTH and TRANSFORMATION.
